Lefty Response

This blog is in response to Dennis Prager's article: "Nine Questions the Left Needs to Answer About Torture" (http://townhall.com/columnists/DennisPrager/2009/04/28/nine_questions_the_left_needs_to_answer_about_torture)

Answers in order below.

1.  Because it was an illegal invasion of a sovereign nation that had not attacked us.  It was based on falsified evidence, and torture was used to try to prove a link to 9/11 that wasn't there.  Simply pathetic.

2.  All forms of torture are abhorrent.  As a Christian, I follow the words of Christ, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and his admonishment to "turn the other cheek."

3.  See answer 2, above.

4.  If the legal advice given by a President's lawyers was illegal, then yes, they and all others who do this should be prosecuted.  Immorality plays no part in the discussion.  Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

5.  Showing the freedom and responsibility found in our country, to moderates everywhere, outweighs any outrage generated by extremists.  I accept any responsibility for violence, but expect none.

6.  The intelligence community was successful for years without using illegal torture.  Most reports indicate that torture did not provide any useful information.  Former VP Cheney is gaming America trying to make the Government prove a negative.

7.  Pelosi was advised of torture, but not how it was being done.  She did file a protest.  She was in an awkward position of dealing with classified information.  To disclose it at that moment in time would open her to charges of Treason.  A classic "Catch 22."  If a case can be made against her, it should be prosecuted - I think such a case is impossible though.

8.  I think it is completely appropriate to release the photos of the treatment of Islamic terrorists.  I do not believe any additional information or photos of terrorists acts are needed.  America releases the photos to show the importance of an open government that can change and now sees that torture was illegal and immoral and that we will no longer stoop to the terrorists level.

9.  Because we are signatories of the Geneva Convention on Torture.  The rules in that document were made because of excesses performed during WWII.  If we lose the moral ground on torture, we will lose the right to protest the treatment of our soldiers in future conflicts.

Always ask yourself, what would Jesus do.  It isn't torture, or hate, or bigotry, or racism.  Think!
